The fourth Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) has been postponed to next year as cinemas in Malaysia are temporarily closed due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

MIFFest chairperson and founder Joanne Goh said the tentative new date is Jan 2 next year.

“According to the latest standard operating procedures announced by the government, activities in cinemas are absolutely not allowed during this conditional movement control order,” he said.

“Since MIFFest will take place directly in local cinemas, the Festival Committee must take into account the health and safety of those involved in the event.

“The health and safety of filmmakers, artists, audiences, crew and staff is our top priority and concern. This decision was made in response to the precautionary measures being taken around the world to combat the pandemic,” she said in a statement today.
